A Decade After Teen Won ‘The Biggest Loser,’ Cameras Catch Up With Him To See How He Looks

Updated December 14, 2017

The Biggest Loser was a first-of-its-kind television show. Millions of people tuned in every week to watch people like them on their weight loss journey. It was a nail-biter. You never knew if the person was going to weigh less or more than they did at their previous weigh in. And you were always cheering for them to hit their goals. If you’re a fan, you probably remember the winner of The Biggest Loser back in 2008. Sam Rouen was only 19 at the time and became the third season winner in the reality television weight-loss competition.

Before he joined the cast of the program, he hated his weight. It made him miserable every day, and he wanted more than anything to shed as many pounds as he could.

He started the show weighing 340 pounds. And he felt like his dream of being a “normal” healthy and active individual was forever beyond his grasp. He had tried fad diets and even hitting the gym. But nothing worked until he was put on the program and followed the experts’ advice.

After just 12 weeks working hard on the television show, his life was changed. During the show, he lost a whopping 156 pounds. In just three months, he felt less resentful about how he looked. Instead, he began to be proud of the more toned and handsome individual he found looking back at him in the mirror. He had achieved his lifelong dream and he was only 19 years old. This change gave him the confidence he needed to continue living a life filled with success.

It’s been ten years since Sam Rouen won the third season of The Biggest Loser. And he hasn’t stepped away from his new healthy lifestyle one bit. Instead, he has become more committed and has achieved an even more chiseled shape. And he isn’t shy about showing it off to the world.

In a recent Facebook update, Sam wanted to tell the world that in the decade since his appearance on the television show, he’s doing more than fine.

“Wasn’t sure if I was going to do this post….. however. ten years hey. What a time. So much has happened, good, bad, everything between,” Sam stated on Facebook. “Highest highs and lowest lows. All I know is I’ve got some amazing people in my corner, and I’m unconditionally appreciative of that.”

Compared to the person he was before he went on the reality television show, he’s completely unrecognizable.

Sam went on to become a firefighter. But not only that, he has modeled in an Australian firefighters calendar. Now that must be a dream come true for this talented young man.

He doesn’t go one day without working himself into a sweat at the gym. That’s a drastic change from his chubby teen years.

As he told The Daily Telegraph, “I’m addicted to working out now, I definitely love running and working out with my brother. I play a bit of sport to stay in shape and also work out in the gym.”

Despite his new looks, Sam still feels anxiety about his physique. And he wants to inspire others to change their lives.

“You can be at your lowest point and, with a bit of hard work and persistence, you can turn it around and fulfill your dreams.”
